Ewoks season 2 Empty Ewoks season 2

The second season was okay but I liked the first one better. Second season animation doesn't look as nice and I don't like the the changes that they made to Chief Chirpa, Teebo and Logray. Wicket's hood change doesn't make a whole lot of sense either.

My favorite from season 2 is Horville's Hut of Horrors. Horville is an awesome character!

Ewoks season 2 Empty Favorite Season 2 episode

Hahaha! "Bringing up Norky". Best delinquent kangaroo-thing evah!

Wicket (on sharing Shodu's cookies): "Aren't you going to have one Norky?"

Norky (looks around slyly) "I'm going to have MORE THAN ONE!"
*dumps entire batch of cookies into his pouch*
lol.

I really enjoyed season 1 more, both as a kid, and now as an adult - I think having the Duloks in several episodes made for more realistic storylines, rather than creating all these new characters - most of them ridiculous ones in season 2.

Yes, those were both good episodes, the main thing I dont care much for are the episodes that feature characters / creatures that look like they are from the Smurfs or something, haha. The Duloks are still my favorite villains in the series as well. What would have been cool is if we had more realistic villains in the cartoon, like we did in the made-for-tv movies, all those creatures were great!

I have to agree with many posters here: I too preferred Season One. I absolutely abhore the changes they made to Chirpa... they made him too "human" looking, if you know what I mean.

The artwork was much better in Season One. When speaking with Brian Lemay who drew for Nelvana, he admitted that they changed artists and overseas production houses from Season One to Season Two; also their budget was cut and it really shows in the production value of Season Two. Shame really...

Ewoks season 2 Empty Re: Ewoks season 2

The second season was never shown here. RT Sarajevo did the dub (which was pretty unusual, as most cartoons were dubbed either here in Belgrade or in Zagreb) and they either never bought the second season or did not manage to run through it by the time the Bosnian war broke out. Us kids were not even aware that there was more. Then again, we also wanted to travel to Endor, so... Laughing

I am glad I have not seen this until last month. Had it aired here in 1991/1992, it would've broken an eight-year-old's heart. Completely.

This was the only show with notably gendered characters where each little boy or girl could identify with one of the primary protagonists, from the first episode. And the creators played it well in cases of all four/five/six protagonists of the first season episodes - each character had a different body language, different set of interests and traits, yet it was all done subtly.

And breaking stereotypes, too.

Lead character younger than everybody else in his group of friends. A princess who's not afraid to fight and be a true action girl, despite wearing pink. A male character with subtle movements and different set of traits from the protagonist. Both of the female leads clearly being feminists. A man-child type who hangs out with the younger friends and doesn't boss them. How many children's shows had that?

I was an odd little girl whose biggest dream was to publish poetry, I hugged trees, talked to houseplants,  I had a strong dislike for typical boys-will-be-boys and girly-girl stereotypes and therefore, I had trouble picking characters to identify with in cartoons unless they were funny slapstick animals with no major characterization.  This cartoon was only the second time around, after The Shoe People and wonderful, brilliant Trampy that I found something I really liked, that I could continue liking throughout my life.

I'm talking about Teebo, of course.

Seeing my favourite character deliberately turned to comic relief would've felt awful at such a young age. As somebody on YouTube suggested, the idea of turning a sensible kid into a moron is...bizarre.

I'm perfectly aware that the creators wanted to make use out of the beta-couple* trope and fit the series to its lead character.** But, they didn't have to be this blunt.

Other things I dislike:

- Colour changes on all characters that had their colours changed.

- How the characters were given adolescent age in the first season, solely to be treated as some sort of 8-10 year olds in the second; yet they're certainly getting hormonal and developing. It makes no sense. And Malani, who came out of age in the first episode, was suddenly younger as well.

- At the same time, Logray's voice sounds like he's got less than a day left to live. Given that he was alive and well in ROTJ, that was stupid.

- Sexualization (she has breasts...and they're freaky) and uglification (is this a word?) of Shodu in order to make her more motherly. Who ever said that mothers need to look that scary? Also, the way she acts to others, it almost makes Malani look like a stereotype orphan child, straight from a Charles Dickens novel.

- Chirpa looks like a result of bestiality between a little human and an Ewok, just no.

- Turning Kneesaa into a complete saint, almost of the virgin Mary kind...

- ...and Latara into a greedy, superficial valley girl type

- Completely erasing Paploo apart from background appearances, reducing Deej, Weechee and Willy to minimum appearances. No Lumat and Zephee either, Asha used just as a ...prop?!

- Duloks barely used as main antagonists.

- Wicket acting like James Bond type of a character...too macho compared to ROTJ, films, comics and the first season.  I kinda expected him to hit one of the girls upside her face. He also took some of Paploo's character traits, but they just don't match a supposedly 13-14 year old.

- The whole of The Season Scepter: the stupid ice cream gag, the SoCal surfer type Sun King...that episode annoys me more than the dragon from Mulan does, and that dragon annoys me a lot.

Things I like:

- Humour getting a bit edgy every now and then.

- Latara sitting on the instrument board and the others doing the same in Battle for Sunstar.

- The Mimphs

- Urgah in a bikini...bwahahahahaha. Oh, god.

- Naming one of the monsters BLOG. Bet they never thought that would actually be a legitimate word come fifteen years later.

- The running gag with Latara getting wet, dirty and angry about it. I so hope that wasn't some sort of a weird, perverted joke by the story authors.

K'vark, I ramble a lot, I should start blogging about this.   What a Face

Footnotes:

*In the shows where characters are coupled (e.g. Friends), it's a common tactic for one couple to have something going on, hot-and-cold, rivalry and eventually get together, while the other, more important couple, is going through slower build-up, that is barely hinted. They didn't have to make it this blunt.

** In some other animated features, for example animated Lord of the Rings, the character who aids the hero and often saves his...mud puddle would often be made dumber/clumsier than in the original incarnation, to make the hero bigger. NO.

I censored bad words in this reply, Ewok-style. XD
